Successful Standing!

It was amazing this evening, friends!  Thank you for chatting with me at the Unitarian Universalist Congregation of the Grand Valley, walking with me from the church to the old county courthouse, and sharing your stories with me as the sun dipped in the sky.

With almost 30 in attendance, I am confident we can make next year even bigger!

Countdown

One hour from now, we’ll be full-swing at the Unitarian Universalist Congregation of the Grand Valley in Grand Junction!  I’m psyched and ready to meet more community members who share the values of Atticus Circle and Soulforce.

Check back tomorrow for pictures!

Action!

My friends …

TODAY is the DAY!  I am thrilled to meet you all and get a committee started for next year’s event!  I’m so grateful for the amazing people at the Unitarian Universalist Congregation of the Grand Valley and look forward to working with them again for 7 Straight Nights For Equal Rights next fall.

We are ready to rock and roll.  I’ve got the tea lights, the white bags, markers, posterboard, and a smile.  I’ll see you there this evening!

9 Days to Go!

I’ve been productive.  Although I was unable to attend the Gay-Straight Alliance meeting due to a conflict with my kids’ back-to-school night, I copied our event fliers and left a stack in the meeting room.  I also managed to schlep my kids around Mesa State and put some fliers on a few bulletin boards.

We have advertised in the Grand Junction Free Press, the Glenwood Springs Post-Independent, the Rifle Citizen Telegram, and the Carbondale Valley Journal.  Check out our notice under Announcements in the Classifieds section!

I’ve made an attempt to connect with another minister in town.  I’ll get back to you on that.

So, for now, I’m gathering materials for the march on the 17th!  Please drop me a comment, or leave a message, or send me an email …
Hope to see you there!

In The Papers!

I’m not falling asleep at the wheel, I promise!  I’ve just been insanely busy trying to get ads published in the papers on the Western Slope.  So … hopefully the Grand Junction Free Press, the Post-Independent, the Valley Journal, and the Citizen Telegram will have our little event advertised in the classifides!  Look for it!

I hope to get in touch with a reporter over there to get some coverage of the evening of the 17th.  I’m also scouting out radio programs who might get us on the air to plug Stand Up Straight, Grand Junction!  If you know of anyone, please let me know!

Postcard Flier

The “postcard flier” link should pull up a scan of the front and back side of the little postcards I left at the Gay-Straight Alliance meeting on Tuesday.  Unfortunately, I was unable to attend as I had back-to-school-night responsibilitiesfor my kiddos, but I am hopeful that I will have a chance to connect with them again in the next week!

Mark Your Calendars!

Friends –

On Wednesday, September 17th, Seven Straight Nights for Equal Rights will take Action in Grand Junction!
The Unitarian Universalist Congregation of the Grand Valley has graciously offered their space for us to congregate, make our signs and luminaries, and proceed with our peaceful walk down Main Street to the Mesa County Court House on Spruce and then to the City Hall building on Rood.

More to follow in the days, weeks, and moments ahead … until then …
mark your calendars!!

Seven Straight Nights Comes To Grand Junction!

Hi Friends!

It’s official!  Grand Junction will join the dozens of cities across the country during the week of September 14th to stand up for equal rights.  While I am incredibly excited to bring this important Action to our town, I am also waiting on some major particulars in order to move forward.  No, we do not have a meeting place at which to congregate before walking down Main Street, but I am hoping the Unitarian Universalist Church will come through for us.  Until I have that settled, I am unable to give you a solid time or route of our walk, but allow me to give you a basic idea:

Meet (at the Unitarian Universalist Church … keep your fingers crossed!)
Make Luminaries to carry
Walk (from Unitarian Universalist Church down Grand to 7th to Main to County Courthouse then back up White to City Hall)

Please leave a comment if you are interested in participating or know of an untapped resource I am (most-assuredly) missing.  Or drop me an email at GetOutTheMap @ live dot com.  I look forward to meeting each and every one of you … and calling you friend!

Be Well,
Lorri
